There are two kinds of betters in Mzansi. One bloke makes one or two bets per weekend, bets a small amount, and patiently waits for the end of the game. The other bloke bets on everything. This one can’t stop adding more markets until the bet slip looks like a whole darn book!

YesPlay has lots of cool sports options for everyone. It’s a good idea to pick a number that means something to you and let that be your guide when you’re placing bets.

Where to start

If you want to see all the sports and types of bets on offer, check this. You can find exactly what you’re looking for with filters that quickly show you what games are happening right now. If you look at the top, you’ll see a list of lekker sports like soccer, basketball, cricket, tennis and rugby, as well as all the leagues you’d expect, like European football and the NBA.

On the match rows, YesPlay shows you what’s important, like 1X2, totals, and handicaps. If you feel like getting a little bit crazy and spicing things up, you can always click that “More markets” button. With Live Games you’ll also get to see the match clock and score.

The number to use

  • Learn how to do quick math in your head and figure out the odds. If it’s 2.00, that means you have about a 50% chance, while 1.67 equals roughly 60%, and 3.00 is one-third.
  • Don’t touch live totals unless you check the clock first. A match at 80 minutes is not the same as a match at 20 minutes.
  • When betting on Basketball markets, it is important to know the rules. On YesPlay, totals and handicaps are shown “incl. overtime,” meaning that a late overtime can still change the outcome.
  • Bet an amount you won’t be too sad about if you lose it. For example, a R29 bet at 2.12 will give you about R61, but it’s the habit that matters.
  • If you find yourself writing numbers after numbers like you’re about to buy milk, eggs and bread, it’s probably time to stop. One smart bet is always better than five random ones.
